How to Slim Your Face: Simple Facial Exercises and Healthy Skin Habits
If your face sometimes looks puffy, tired, or less defined than you would like, your first thought might be that you need an expensive treatment. But before jumping to injections or cosmetic procedures, there are simple habits you can add to your daily routine.
I’m Noel, founder of Changed Skin, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that taking care of my skin isn't only about what I put on my face. My daily habits, hydration, movement, skincare routine, facial exercises, and overall wellness all play a role in how my skin looks and feels.
The video above demonstrates some of the techniques I use as part of my own routine.
Can You Really Slim Your Face With Facial Exercises?
Let's clear up something important: facial exercises cannot selectively burn fat from your face.
Your facial appearance can be affected by many things, including genetics, age, body composition, hydration, sleep, and temporary puffiness.
What facial exercises can do is work the muscles of your face. Just like other muscles in your body, your facial muscles move when you contract and relax them.
That's why I think of facial exercises as part of a larger self-care routine—not as a miracle facelift.
1. Start With Clean, Moisturized Skin
Before I begin my facial routine, I wash my hands and cleanse my face.
I also like to apply a small amount of facial oil or moisturizer. This provides slip so my fingers aren't unnecessarily pulling or dragging across dry skin.
Use gentle pressure. More pressure doesn't automatically mean better results.
Your face deserves the same patience you would give any other part of your body.
2. Add Simple Facial Exercises
Facial exercises don't have to be complicated.
For example, you can practice controlled cheek movements, gently engage different facial muscles, and repeat each movement several times.
The key for me is consistency.
I would rather spend a few minutes practicing regularly than perform an aggressive routine once in a while.
And remember: you should never continue a movement that causes pain or significant discomfort.
3. Don't Forget Facial Massage
I also incorporate gentle facial massage and lymphatic-style movements into my routine.
These light movements may temporarily help with the appearance of puffiness, especially when you're waking up in the morning or your face simply feels swollen.
I work gently around areas such as my cheeks, jawline, sides of my face, and neck.
This isn't about aggressively pushing or pulling the skin. Gentle, controlled movements are enough.
4. Hydration Matters
Sometimes we focus so much on skincare products that we forget about our everyday habits.
I make hydration part of my routine because adequate hydration is important for normal body function and overall skin health.
Your moisturizer is also important because it helps your skin retain moisture and can leave dry skin looking and feeling smoother.
For me, skincare and wellness work together.
5. Pay Attention to Sleep, Food and Movement
One cream can't replace an entire healthy routine.
Sleep, nutrition, physical activity, sun protection, hydration, and consistent skincare all contribute to overall wellness and the appearance of your skin.
That's one reason I encourage people to look beyond quick fixes.
Instead of asking, "What product will change my face overnight?" try asking:
"What healthy habits can I practice consistently?"
That's a much better question.
What About Collagen?
Collagen is an important structural protein in the skin, and natural collagen production changes as we age.
You'll see many videos and products online promising to dramatically "boost collagen" or reverse aging. Be careful with those promises.
No facial exercise should be presented as a guaranteed way to rebuild collagen or erase wrinkles.
I prefer to focus on things we can realistically control: protecting our skin from the sun, moisturizing, eating a balanced diet, staying active, getting adequate rest, and maintaining a consistent skincare routine.
Consistency Over Perfection
You don't need a complicated 20-step routine.
Start small.
Cleanse gently. Moisturize. Protect your skin from the sun. Drink water throughout the day. Move your body. Get adequate sleep. And if you enjoy facial exercises or gentle facial massage, make them part of your regular self-care routine.
Take pictures periodically instead of judging your appearance every day. That can make it easier to notice gradual changes in your routine and habits.
Most importantly, give yourself time.

These are personal skincare and wellness practices—not medical treatments—and individual results will vary.
If you have a skin condition, recent facial procedure, persistent swelling, pain, or another medical concern, talk with an appropriate healthcare professional before starting facial massage or exercises.
At Changed Skin, my philosophy is simple:
Healthy skin starts with healthy habits.
Take care of your skin, take care of your body, and stay consistent.
